Mr. Bramwel W. Wanjala from International Potato Center CIP, facilitated the workshop by explaining the whole system of new technology of sweetpotato seed multiplication.
He said SANDPONICS is a cultivation system that uses sand as primary medium, screenhouse based, designed to improve agricultural productivity through enabling year-round farming.
Why we need SANDPONICS technology in Tanzania for SweetPotato seed multiplication system?
- Its simple technique to implement
- Sand is cheap and always available as uses as a medium
- Sand can be sterilized at lower cost
- Sand can be recycled
- Higher number of vines can be produced
- It is a lower cost technology
