Work Experience

2014 todate Research Officer- Tanzania Agricultura Research Institute (TARI) Makutupora Centre, Tanzania. He holds a PhD in Plant Breeding in 2021. Andekelile has done research on developing drought tolerance and high yield sorghum varieties and grapes which are used as models for adaptation in semi-arid areas of Tanzania.

Andekelile uses both conventional and molecular techniques (marker assisted selection, marker assisted back crossing and genome wide association mapping) to achieve his career. In addition, he worked as Quality control Officer at National Food Reserve Agency (NFRA) Sumbawanga-Rukwa region in 2013-2014 and Sales Officer at SUBA Agro Company Limited- Njombe region in 2012-2013


Research Interest

Molecular and conventional plant breeding of cereals and grape crops for tolerance to abiotic and biotic stresses (pests and diseases) in tropics. Uses of marker assisted selection, genome wide association mapping and marker assisted backcrossing techniques for exploiting traits of importance in crop improvement.
