TARI Naliendele Determined to Promote Good Agricultural Practice through Sports

The Tanzania Agricultural Research Institute (TARI) Naliendele Centre in Mtwara Region has established six playgrounds, including for children under the age of nine years old, for the development of sports, visualization and identification of various talents. The grounds will help to build relationships between the institute with the community in Mtwara Region, strengthen cooperation between the institution with other institutions outside and inside Mtwara region.
Center Director of TARI Naliendele Dr. Fortunus Kapinga, said the playgrounds will be used to convey messages about research results to various stakeholders. "Through sports people can come together at once, some do not know about cashew growing or may be sesame and groundnuts, so by doing these games it is an opportunity to convey our messages about proper agricultural technology through sports". Said Dr. Kapinga.
He said the Institute has set aside two grounds specifically for children under the age of nine years old where by children will use to play football and the other will be used for netball, while the remaining grounds will be for regular players. Speaking during the ceremony to witness the women's football match, Mtwara District Commissioner, Hon. Dunstan Kyobya commended TARI Naliendele for setting up Playgrounds, saying that they are aimed at promoting the region, the opportunities available in the region and Cashew crop as well.
