Papias H. Binagwa (Ph D.) has more than 10 years in legume crop research experience focusing on biotic and abiotic stresses aimed on enhancing crop productivity for better livelihood to smallholder farmers. He has worked with Tuskegee University, USA as research associate on peanut/groundnut and common bean crop improvements. He pioneered the release of over ten improved common bean varieties and five Improved Mungbean varieties under Tanzania Agricultural research Institute (TARI). He has mobilized research funds worth USD 593,971.00 since 2016 to date. He is collaborating with international institutions (CIAT, CIMMYT, AGRA, and WorldVeg) on ensuring access, affordability, and availability of improved crop varieties to smallholder farmers. He holds a PhD. On Integrative Biosciences program specializing in Plant Genomics, Breeding and Pathology from Tuskegee University, AL USA.  He also pursued his MSc. in Plant and Soil Sciences from same University and BSc. in Agriculture General from Sokoine University of Agriculture, Morogoro, Tanzania. Additionally, he holds MA in Monitoring and Evaluation from Open University of Tanzania (OUT). He has authored eight (8) publications and co-authored over twelve publications across multi-disciplines of, plant genomics, breeding, biotechnology, pathology, seed systems, nutrition, and social economics https://scholar.google.com/citations?user=8ADiOnIAAAAJ&hl=en. Dr. Binagwa is now serving as CIMMYT Adjunct Scientist for Dryland Crops Improvement in areas of Seed Systems across Eastern and Southern Africa (ESA).
