TARI Ukiriguru provides field practical training to Karagwe University College Students.

Seven students (4-Male & 3-Female) from Karagwe University College(KARUCO) in Karagwe district, Karagwe region and one student from Sokoine University of Agriculture(SUA) who is undertaking her Bachelor degree in Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness  has benefited by being trained on different research programs being carried out at TARI-Ukiriguru Centre based in Mwanza region. During their one month presence at TARI Ukiriguru the students were practically involved in activities done by researchers at the Institute in particular areas of agronomy, breeding, entomology, pathology of the mandated crops like root crops(sweet potato& cassava)  and cotton as well as  non-mandated crops like sun flower, sorghum, maize, paddy and leguminous crops like chickpea.

Students were also trained on tractor maintenance and operations. Practically, they managed to drive a tractor both forward and reverse ways, including  hitching the farm implements (disc plough, disc harrow and a ridger). Finally, they were able to make ploughing using a tractor
