President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Her Excellency Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan has officially inaugurated the Central Agricultural Laboratory located at Mtumba in Dodoma on August 8, 2025.
This facility, which falls under the supervision of the Tanzania Agricultural Research Institute (TARI), marks a significant advancement in the government's commitment to modernizing agriculture and enhancing food security in the country.
During the inauguration, Minister for Agriculture Hon. Hussein Mohamed Bashe provided President Samia with an overview of the facility’s capabilities and its anticipated impact.
He noted that the laboratory comprises 15 specialized labs designed to support advanced research, covering areas such as seeds, pesticides, crop health, soil analysis, pest and disease control, and agricultural biotechnology.
This laboratory is a crucial part of Tanzania's broader agricultural transformation agenda, aimed at tackling key challenges such as declining soil fertility, climate change, and recurring crop diseases by providing scientific data and practical solutions.
The inauguration coincided with this year’s Nane Nane Agricultural Exhibition, a nationwide event held annually to celebrate and showcase innovations in the agricultural sector.
TARI actively participated in exhibitions in 11 different locations, including a significant presence at Dkt John Samwel Malecela in Dodoma and in Zanzibar at Dole- Kizimbani, highlighting a range of farming technologies developed through research to improve productivity and contribute to income and food security in the country.
The TARI pavilion at Dr John Samwel Malecela attracted large crowds of farmers, researchers, and stakeholders interested in learning about cutting-edge solutions for modern farming.
Among the notable guests who visited the TARI displays were retired Prime Minister Hon. Mizengo Pinda and Indonesian Ambassador to Tanzania Hon. Tri Yogo Jatmiko.
