TARI - Makutupora Centre conducted training to farmers and extension officers on Good Agricultural Practices (GAPs) for grape production along the value chain at Chamwino District Council in Dodoma Region.

Four days’
capacity building training on Good Agricultural Practices (GAPs) in grape
production and processing was conducted at Chamwino District Council.
Various topics on grape production and processing technologies were
covered in the training that included site selection and Land preparation,
grape management and proper harvesting techniques, identification and
management of insects, pests and diseases and post-harvesting and value
addition techniques of grapes. A total of 513 farmers attended the
training of which 430 were males and 83 were females from 27 villages
within 4 wards including Mvumi Makulu, Mvumi Mission, Handali and
Chinangali II wards in Chamwino district where grape is a potential crop.
Local Government Leaders were also invited
to attend the training, these included Ward and Village Executive Officers
(WEOs &VEOs), Ward Counsellors, Extension Officers and District
Agricultural, Irrigation and Co-operatives Officer (DAICO) of Chamwino district
who officiated the training.
