TARI - Naliendele conducted a Farmer Field Day for Cassava demos in Namtumbo DC, Ruvuma region

TARI Naliendele has made Farmer Field Day at a field farm with 11 varieties of improved Cassava Varieties in Bomani street, Namtumbo Ward located at Namtumbo District Council in Ruvuma Region A total of 113
Farmers (52 Male and 61 Female) and Specialists from the Department of
Agriculture attended. This day has been used to encourage farmers to use improved Cassava varieties and good agricultural practices in Cassava Cultivation. Farmers have been
able to witness a variety of good cassava seeds including identifying the
characteristics of those seeds including that of knowing the taste of each
type of cassava. Finally, farmers have been able to make their own
recommendations about their favorite
varieties.

Mkuranga v. Pwani
Qualities
used by Farmers i. They
are very productive ii.
Resistance to diseases (Brown Stripes and Batobato) iii. It
matures quickly iv.
They are suitable for eating and making flour v. They
do not have fiber vi.
They are sold on the market vii.
They look good viii.
They have a lot of leaves (squash)
All of these
varietiea have been developed by the TARI.

yield per hectare is 30.7 tons and matures in an average of 9-12 months
TARICASS4 The average
yield per hectare is 39.4 tons and matures in an average of 9-12 months
PWANI The average
yield per hectare is 50.8 tons and matures in an average of 11-12 months
KIROBA The
average yield per hectare is 25.3 tons and matures in an average of 9-10
months
MKURANGA1 The average
yield per hectare is 21.6 tons and matures in an average of 9-12 months
