African Cassava Agronomy Initiatives (ACAI) is a 5-year project (2016 to 2020) which recently got and extension of 18 months (till June 2022) to finalize technology scale up. It is implemented in 5 countries in Africa namely Nigeria, Tanzania, DRC, Ghana and Uganda but started with Tanzania and Nigeria. In Tanzania ACAI project is implemented in the Lake Zone (LZ), Eastern Zone (EZ), Southern Zone (SZ) and Zanzibar and main focus is on four use cases namely Fertilizer Recommendations (FR), Fertilizer Blending (FB), Intercropping (IC) and Staggered Planting (SP). Decision Support Tools (DSTs) were developed for each use case and they are now available in AKILIMO in forms of paper based (maps, decision trees and budget tables) and electronics (smartphone App, desktop software, SMS, interactive voice response and radio programs). ACAI is now focusing mainly on scaling of AKILIMO, spear headed by the Development Partners. Tanzania Agriculture Research Institute (TARI) and IITA are the main implementors who work closely with primary development partners MEDA, Farm Concern International (FCI), Tanzania Food and Nutrition Centre (TFNC) and Minjingu Fertilizer Company (MFC) who implement sister cassava development projects. Recently, secondary development partners; TACAPA, ARIFU and Kilimo Joint, CAPAFO and TYEGD were brought on-board as new partners to help in up-scaling ACAI DSTs.
