Dr. Alfonce Leonard Mutiba is a researcher At Tanzania Agricultural Research Institute (TARI)-Ukiriguru Centre. He holds a PhD in Agriculture (Entomology/Pathology) from Makerere University, Uganda under DAAD/ARPPIS PhD scholarship at International Centre of Insect Physiology and Ecology (icipe). Dr. Alfonce also holds MSc. Crop Science and BSc. Agriculture general both from Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA).  He is currently heading a Cotton Pathology sub-program; and Molecular and tissue culture laboratory at Ukiriguru Center. He has experience in insects and diseases identification through molecular and morphological techniques; and integrated insects and diseases management techniques. Further, he has an experience of evaluating cotton genotypes for tolerance to diseases such as bacterial blight and Fusarium wilt. He has also been screening cassava genotypes for presence or absence of cassava mosaic disease (CMD) and cassava brown streak virus (SBSV) through molecular technique.
