Dr. Deusdedit Peter Mlay (PhD) senior agronomist at Tanzania Agricultural Research Institute (TARI) with over 20 years’ experience in agronomy research. Dr. Mlay has accomplished a lot of scientific work including developing recommendations for Good Agricultural Practices using digital applications under African Cassava Initiative project financed by Bill and Melinda Gates foundations. He collaborated in investigating “The role of cassava on livelihoods of the small-scale farmers in SAGCOT area in Tanzania”.

Dr. Mlay was appointed by VI Agroforestry for four years (2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024) consecutively, to review and present papers on: The benefits of Agroforestry over conversional agriculture in Tanzania”, “Contribution of agroforestry practices towards the attainment of the right to food in Tanzania”, “Ccontribution of agroforestry practices in livelihood improvements and mitigation of the effects of climate change” and “Agroforestry contribution to sustainable food systems in Tanzania”, respectively, during the Agroforestry Annual Symposiums which were held in Musoma.

On the other hand, he has accomplished various consultancy works including baseline survey under Solidaridad (EU project) on “Passport to Coffee (PACE) Project in Southern Highlands, Tanzania”, HELVETAS on “Consequences of post-harvest losses to vegetable farmers in Singida, Tanzania”,  VI Agroforestry on: the Rapid assessment of household food security during the period of COVID-19 pandemic in Mwanza city, Tanzania and under Plan International on “Assessing agricultural and livestock potentials in Central Equatorial and Jonglei States in South Sudan” to mention a few. Also, he was appointed by International Centre for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT) as a visiting researcher to participate in assessing on “How to improve the livelihoods of small-scale African farmers by scaling up the low-cost techniques developed by CIAT which are used in production of cassava materials”. Apart from being author and co-author of various peer reviewed articles and scientific reports, Dr. Mlay is also a senior reviewer of the “African Journal of Food, Agriculture, Nutrition and Development (AJFAND)”.
