Improved crop varieties offer much higher yields, better quality, and more stable production. Tanzania Agricultural Research Institute (TARI) in collaboration with partners has undertaken research and produced improved varieties on crops including cereals, roots and tubers, grain legumes, oil seed, banana, cotton, coffee, tobacco, sisal, cashew, sugarcane, and horticultural crops.
For over half a century, the National Agricultural Research Systems (NARS) in Tanzania has developed and released varieties for use by farmers. The varieties are available in the Variety catalogue as registered by Tanzania Official Seed Certification Institute (TOSCI). The Catalogue encompass all varieties developed and released by both public and private institutions. To access the list of all varieties released in Tanzania.
