Postharvest and management

The Crop Research and Post-Harvest section is responsible for the development, evaluation, and dissemination of improved crop varieties and production technologies, with a strong emphasis on resilience, productivity, and nutritional value. It undertakes breeding programs for major staple and cash crops, pest and disease management research, and the introduction of climate-smart agricultural practices. Furthermore, the section addresses post-harvest losses, which remain a critical challenge in Tanzania’s agricultural sector, through innovations in storage, processing, value addition, and preservation technologies. This dual focus on production and post-harvest efficiency ensures that the benefits of improved crop productivity translate into better food security, income generation, and market competitiveness for farmers.
